Carpet Removal
If you now have wall-to-wall carpet, you'll have to remove it to make way for the new carpet and pad. When you remove your existing carpet and pad, please leave the tack strip down. If you wish, we will take up and dispose the existing carpet and pad for a modest charge. Sorry, but we will only dispose of carpet we take up. In most cases, your trash hauler will take any carpet you take up.
Furniture Removal
YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE ALL FURNITURE AND BREAKABLES to make way for the new carpet and pad. If you wish, we will remove your furniture for a modest charge.
If Kiser Carpets will be moving your furniture, please remove all breakable items, such as vases, lamps, and dishes from the dining room hutches. Detach any electrical wiring such as stereo and TV wires. Any breakable items that have to be moved by our installers will be moved at the customer's own risk. In bedrooms, please strip beds and remove all items from the tops of dressers and the bottom closets (if they are to be done). In the kitchen and utility rooms, please disengage the washer, dryer, refrigerator and all gas appliances. Your installers are not responsible for disconnecting or connecting these items.
Cutting
We do not cut doors for carpet clearance. The installers will remove the doors to install carpet and replace them but will not replace doors if they require cutting.
Molding
If your existing carpet is laid under quarter round, we cannot be responsible for breakage of the molding. We will try to keep breakage to a minimum. Your installers will use your existing tack strip and reinforce or replace them if necessary.
Carpet Waste
After installation, you'll probably notice some leftover pieces of carpet (some may be rather large). It's just due to the fact that most carpet is sold in 12 foot widths. So the chances are, that if you are having halls or stairs carpeted, there will be a usual waste factor of between 12 and 15%. please show installer the pieces you wish to save. In most cases, they'll only leave behind 3'x 3' pieces or larger.
Carpet Seams
In most installations, carpet seams are inevitable. Contrary to opinion, today's heat-bonded seams are as strong as the rest of the carpet. BUT THEY ARE NOT INVISIBLE. Even though your installers do the best they can, you will be able to see the seams. Also, because of the direction of the carpet, some seams may be more visable than others. This is quite normal and should be expected. Please discuss with your installer any seams you may have questions about before he leaves your home.
Paint & Wallpaper
Carpet does not come the same size as your rooms. Before we start to stretch and fit the carpet, it will be larger than the room and somewhat up the walls. With the heavy latex in the back of carpets today, this can be a problem, especially if you just recently redecorated the room.
Freshly hung wallcovering can take days for the glue to dry and can easily be damaged when we are working in the room. We suggest if you are going to put in new wallcovering that you wait until after we install the carpet. New wallcovering will not damage new carpet, but new carpet can damage new wallcovering.
Freshly painted woodwork (especially over lacquer or varnish) is very easy to scratch and damage. We have to put the base of our stretchers against the baseboard to stretch the carpet. Plus, the back of the carpet has to be worked against the wall before we cut it to fit. Both could mess up the finish somewhat, especially if it very fresh. We will take whatever care is possible to minimize these types of problems, but it may be necessary to touch up the baseboards after the carpet installations.
Specialty Labor
BASIC INSTALLATION is included in your installation package; however, extra labor services may be required such as take-up, removal, stairs, metals, trim, sub-floor prep, or furniture moving, to name a few. These 'Specialty Labor' services require an additional charge.
It is important for you to understand that installers will only perform work shown on the work order, as this is how they are paid. Any extra work that is required during installation, that has been previously discussed with your sales associate and written on the work order, will require an additional charge. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
